STUDENT: My instructor is using Respondus, but I need a passcode to take the exam. Why?

Summary

Use these instructions to get started in using the Respondus Lockdown Browser to take an exam in Blackboard if required by your instructor.

Body

Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. When an instructor configures a Blackboard exam to require LockDown Browser, students will be unable to take the exam with traditional web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari or access other applications. The LockDown Browser also disables features like copy/paste and screen capture, and prevents access to other applications.

If your instructor is using Respondus for their Blackboard exams, you will need to take the exam in Blackboard through the Respondus Lockdown Browser. You cannot use your typical web browser to take the exam, otherwise you will see the message that a passcode is required

You will need to download the BSU version of Lockdown Browser to take your exams. You can find a Quick Start Guide for students to help you get set up.

Note: There is an option to use a Chromebook device or iPad to take a test using Lockdown Browser, but your professor must enable that option.
