While it is not mandatory, it is considered best practice to inform your students whenever you are recording a class session using Zoom or any other video platform.
Zoom Automatically Notifies Participants
Zoom will automatically notify all participants when a session is being recorded. A recording disclaimer appears on screen, and participants must acknowledge it to remain in the session.
Best Practice: Notify Students in Advance
To maintain transparency and trust, it’s recommended that faculty include a statement in their course syllabus and/or verbally notify students during live sessions.

Online Course Recordings Policy
This course is scheduled to run synchronously at our scheduled class time via Zoom. These class sessions will be recorded. The recording will capture the instructor’s audio, video and computer screen. Student audio and video will be recorded if students share their computer audio and video during the recorded session. The recordings will only be accessible to students enrolled in the course for review. These recordings will not be shared with or accessible to the public.
