When a discussion, test, or assignment requires a written response, a text editor will appear. You can use this editor to type your answer, format text, and insert math formulas as needed.

Steps to Add Text in Blackboard Ultra:
- Navigate to the submission page for your discussion, test, or assignment.
- Use the text editor box to write your response or upload a document.
- If you’re having trouble uploading, try converting your file to a PDF first.
- Click the appropriate button to finish:
- Save and Close (draft) or Submit (for assignments)
- Save Draft or Post (for discussions)
Tips for Using the Text Editor:
- Text is not auto-saved. Always click the correct save or submit button to avoid losing your work.
- To prevent data loss from Internet issues or technical glitches, consider writing your response in a separate app like Notepad or TextEdit first, then copy and paste it into Blackboard.
- If you're pasting from Microsoft Word, you'll be prompted to:
- Keep formatting – some styling may not appear the same and may be harder to adjust afterward.
- Remove formatting – strips all styles (e.g., bullets, spacing, fonts, alignment). You can reapply formatting within Blackboard’s editor if needed.
