FACULTY: After grading student assignments, why does "New Submission" still appear in my Ultra gradebook?

Summary

This article provides guidance on how to grade student assignments in Blackboard Ultra so that the "New Submission" text disappears.

Body

If you're seeing "New Submission" in your Ultra Gradebook even after grading an assignment, here’s a quick fix:

The culprit: Entering grades using the oval on the right.

The solution: Always use the oval on the left!

Explanation:

While grading, you’ll see two ovals at the top of your screen where you can enter scores. To properly record the grade and remove the "New Submission" notice, use the oval on the left. Once you enter the score there, it will automatically appear in the oval on the right as well.

The oval on the right is meant for overriding grades. If you type directly into it, you're overriding the existing grade, which can cause the "New Submission" label to persist. Only use it if you intend to change a previously entered grade.
