This guide provides faculty with instructions on recording live Zoom sessions in designated HyFlex classrooms and sharing them directly with students through their Blackboard Ultra course site.
Important Note: Every classroom on campus is equipped with at least a webcam, allowing you to record yourself at the front end computer station. There are, however, six “HyFlex” rooms with more advanced recording equipment. Our HyFlex classrooms are DMF 242, HRT 116, 212, HRG 204, LIB 204, LIB 205. Please contact the Registrar if you’d like to teach in one of the HyFlex rooms.
Steps:
- Before Class: Schedule Your Zoom Meeting in Blackboard Ultra:
- Access your Blackboard Ultra course site.
- Navigate to the content area where you want to add the Zoom meeting link.
- Click the (+) sign to add content and select "Content Market” Then scroll down to Zoom and click the (+) to add the Zoom Meeting link to your Course Content.
- Navigate back to your Course Content and click Zoom to set up your meeting(s).
- Click "Schedule a New Meeting" and configure your meeting settings (date, time, duration, etc.).
- Under "Meeting Options," ensure "Record the meeting automatically" and "In the cloud" are selected. Choosing "In the cloud" automatically uploads the recording to Blackboard.
- Click "Save" to create the Zoom meeting.
- During Class: Conduct Your Lecture in the HyFlex Classroom:
- On the designated day and time, enter the HyFlex classroom.
- Open your Blackboard Ultra course site on a computer in the classroom.
- Locate the Zoom meeting link you created earlier within the Blackboard Ultra course site. This will ensure the recording is linked in your course.
- Click Start to begin the Zoom meeting recording.
- Proceed with your lecture as usual. Click End in Zoom when class is done. The meeting will automatically record in the cloud.
- After Class: Sharing the Recording with Students (After Your Lecture):
- Once the Zoom meeting concludes, the recording will be saved inside your course site.
- Access the recording by navigating to the Zoom meeting link in your Blackboard course. Click the “Cloud Recordings” tab. You can then choose to:
- Publish the recording to all students enrolled in your course.
- Share the recording link with specific students.
Benefits of Recording in Blackboard Ultra:
- Recordings are automatically linked to your course site, making them easily accessible to students.
- Students can review lectures at their own pace and revisit key points.
- Recordings can be a valuable resource for students who miss class sessions due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances.
