Users can request temporary administrator privileges on Macs using the Self Service+ app available on every Mac in labs and general use environments.
There is a 30-minute time limit, and a single user can request account elevation up to four times each day.
To request temporary administrator privileges:
Click on the Self Service+ icon (+ symbol) in the upper right task menu.
Select “Request Admin Privileges” from the pop-up menu.

Sign in with your BSU account to verify your identity.

Select a reason for the request from the pop-up menu. Chose the option closest to your situation, or select “other” from the list, and enter a one- or two-word reason for the request.
Click the Continue button.

You should see a prompt verifying that you are now a local administrator.

A timer next to the Self Service+ icon will countdown the remaining time left on your temporary privileges and your account will be listed on the menu as Admin.

Once the time elapses, your account will automatically be returned to standard. You also have the option to end the time early by clicking on “End Admin Privileges” from the menu.
