Emergency Notification System Information
The Emergency Notification System is used to send text, email, and phone calls to alert BSU faculty, staff, and students about emergencies and weather related issues. Only some or all contact methods may be used, depending on the situation. Alerts are always posted on our website at https://www.bridgew.edu. If there are no alerts posted on the web site, we are operating under normal conditions.
Rules, Restrictions, and Instructions
Students, faculty, and staff cannot un-enroll themselves from the Emergency Notification System, and are opted-in by default. This University policy is for the safety of BSU Community members and to ensure efficient responses to emergencies. ANYONE (students, faculty, staff, relatives, friends, contractors, vendors, visitors, etc.) can specifically Opt-In or Opt-Out of SMS/Text messages sent directly to your cell phone.
To Opt IN to SMS/Text alerts: text bsualert to 67283 from the phone you wish to enroll.
To Opt OUT of SMS/Text alerts: text STOP bsualert to 67283 from the phone you wish to unenroll.
Your current contact details can be viewed and edited through the Personal Information card located on the MyBSU website. When updating details, please allow 24 hours for the information to be updated in all our systems. Updating your cell phone number will NOT change your Opt-In or Opt-Out status for text messages. If you are not sure what your status is, please follow the instructions above for your desired SMS/Text option.
To view/change existing contact details:
- Log into MyBSU
- Locate the "Personal information" card and click on "Open General Dashboard".
- In the Phone number section you can see what number is listed as your "Cell or Campus Emergency" number.
- To change your number click on the edit icon under your phone number.
- Enter the phone number you wish to be contacted on in an emergency and click on Update.

FAQs
What if I don’t own a cell phone?
If you do not have a cellular phone, please enter the best number to reach you in an emergency. The University will still send you messages about campus emergencies through other channels. For example, voice messages will be sent to your home phone.
What number will be reflected on my caller ID when an alert is issued?
When a BSU Alert is issued via the campus-wide emergency notification system, caller ID will show that you are receiving a call from 508-531-1000.
