Overview
The Resident Assistant (RA) position supports residents in meeting their educational, interpersonal and social needs relative to their living environment. The RA’s primary responsibility is to work with individuals and groups to assist residents in attaining maximum growth from their university experience.
RAs live on campus in an assigned room/building to support a specific residential community. The RAs in a building or area fulfill nightly and weekend duty expectations. RAs also support the essential functions of opening the residence halls and closing the residence halls each break period. More information about the RA role can be found in the Duties Overview.
The RAs report to the Live-In Staff (Resident Director, Area Coordinator, or Graduate Hall Manager) of their assigned hall.
Compensation
RAs receive a waiver equal to the lowest room rate on campus and a gold meal plan. (Room & Board).
Please note this does not include the fees associated with living on campus.
Duties Overview
This is summary of the RA position's duties, and does not fully encapsulate all job expectations.
RAs have multiple job duties that they enact in order to best serve the residential community. The key areas are as related to community building, programming, helping, and administrative work.
RAs must be available to students in their living environment to assist with personal, social, and academic concerns, and to provide general resources. RAs serve on a building duty rotation 7pm-7am each night, and weekend passive duties 9am-7pm Saturday & Sunday. RAs are expected to respond to emergencies and support residents. RAs are responsible for facilitating floor meetings and educating residents on policies and procedures. RAs must confront behavior that infringes on the rights of others or that is not respectful of the community. RAs are also complete programs and bulletin boards following the RLH program model, and they must get to know their residents on their floor. RAs must attend all meetings and trainings, and submit accurate and timely documentation. RAs must listen to others, and respect the rights of all residents by observing confidentiality except where it would result in harm to a student, to others, or to college property.

Qualifications
Successful RA candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student throughout the entire course of employment, unless otherwise approved. Approval must be obtained in writing by the Assistant Director of Residence Life.
- Must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
- Must be in satisfactory disciplinary status as determined by the Office of Residence Life and Housing in conjunction with the Office of Community Standards.
- Must be reasonably familiar with academic programs, University and Residence Life and Housing policies and procedures, job specific Standard Operating Procedures as well as resources and activities available at the University.
