Mission: The mission of the Lavender LLC is to integrate LGBTQ+ students into the campus LGBTQ community and the wider campus community via immersive components: Residential (i.e., living in the Lavender LLC); Academic (i.e., the Lavender LLC course); and Experiential (i.e., attending on-campus events and/or meeting with campus resources.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify and explain key concepts and terms in LGBTQIA+ studies and promoting LGBTQIA+ student success
- Identify faculty members, staff, and other campus resources that promote student engagement
- Describe the common purpose that LLC students share with the other members of this LLC and how they have grown as a result of living in the LLC
Academic Component
Students of the Lavender LLC will be required to register for two one-credit courses (one in fall and one in spring).
In both semesters, first-year students will attend an interactive weekly class that aims to explore key concepts and terms in LGBTQIA+ studies and other social justice areas (e.g., racial justice, inclusion, equity).
Students will participate in skill building activities and also complete a resource learning component (i.e., attending on-campus events and/or meeting with a campus resource like the Academic Achievement Center or the Internship Office).
Lastly, at the end of each term, the final assignment is a 2 - 3-page reflection essay describing how the Lavender LLC has impacted their growth and sense of connection (e.g., identity, psychosocial, academic and civic engagement development), as a result of living in the LLC and participating in the academic component.
