Learning Outcomes

Sponsored by the Department of Music. Housed in Weygand Hall.

Mission: The mission of the Music LLC is to foster a safe environment where students can write, arrange, perform music while being supported by colleagues and mentors.  Further, this LLC will provide assistance and tutoring for students enrolled in our Music theory sequence. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to relate personal successes and struggles to other members of the learning community.
  • Students will be able to create, arrange and perform original music with friends and colleagues.
  • Students will be able to apply lessons learned in MUSC 276 (Comprehensive Musicianship II), MUSC 372 (Forms and Analysis of Music I), MUSC 472 (Forms and Analysis of Music II) and Performance Studies to write, explain, and critique new and established compositions.
  • Student will be able to experiment with composition, arranging, and new performances based on application of MUSC 276 (Comprehensive Musicianship II), MUSC 372 (Forms and Analysis of Music I), and MUSC 472 (Forms and Analysis of Music II)

Academic Component

Students will be enrolled in our Comprehensive Musicianship sequence.  This sequence begins with Music Fundamentals in Freshman Year Fall.  Followed by Comprehensive Musicianship I (Freshman Spring), Comprehensive Musicianship II (Sophomore Fall), Forms and Analysis I (Sophomore Spring), Forms and Analysis II (Junior Fall). 

This sequence is crucial to the success of our students and is quite demanding.  A supportive LLC environment will help support our students as they ascend through our degree programs.  The Music Majors and Minors LLC will feature several opportunities for its members including trips to Boston for free concerts at the New England Conservatory, and meeting professional musicians and alumni who will come to the LLC to talk about various careers in music.
