Overview

The Office Assistant works closely with the Residence Life & Housing staff to provide customer service to resident students and maintain day-to-day operations of the office to which they are assigned. 

Office Assistants can be assigned to work in the main office or in a Residence Hall, based on RLH's need.

The Office Assistant reports to RLH Main office Administrative Assistant or the Resident Director of his/her assigned area.

Compensation

OAs are a work study position and are compensated accordingly.

Duties Overview

This is summary of the OA position's duties, and does not fully encapsulate all job expectations.

OAs exhibit basic receptionist and helper skills. This includes being available, approachable and visible to students while in the office, and making appropriate referrals to campus resources or personnel if necessary. OAs assist with hanging flyers and maintaining building signage. ​​​OAs fill out and process room inventories when there is a check-in/out or room change, including express checkouts when necessary. OAs must check BSU emails regularly. OAs assist with keeping an updated, accurate, and complete file of room inventories. OAs file appropriate paperwork as needed. OAs maintain general office functions if needed such as answering the office phone and performing lock outs. OAs assist in card coding. OAs assist in maintaining the general condition of the buildings by entering online work orders.  OAs may also assist with health & safety inspections.

Qualifications

Successful Office Assistant candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Must be enrolled as a full-time BSU student throughout the course of employment. 

  2. Must be in satisfactory disciplinary status as determined by the Office of Residence Life and Housing. 

  3. Must have federal work study funds.  

  4. Possess good communication and customer service skills.
