How to disable MAC Randomization

Overview

Many modern devices use Private (Randomized) MAC Addresses by default when connecting to Wi-Fi networks. While this improves privacy, it can sometimes interfere with connecting to or managing devices on the BSU network.

If you're experiencing connection issues, you may want to disable MAC randomization for the BSU Wi-Fi network by following the instructions for your device below.

Apple Devices

Mac (macOS Sequoia or Later)

  1. Click the Apple menu and select System Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi from the sidebar.
  3. Click Details (or More Info) next to the BSU Wi-Fi network.
  4. Turn Private Wi-Fi Address Off.

iPhone / iPad

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the ⓘ button next to the BSU Wi-Fi network.
  4. Turn Private Address Off.

Apple Watch

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Select the BSU Wi-Fi network.
  4. Turn Private Address Off.

Android Devices

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & Internet.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Select the BSU Wi-Fi network.
  5. Tap Advanced.
  6. Tap Privacy.
  7. Select Use device MAC or Disable Randomized MAC (wording may vary by manufacturer).

Windows Devices

  1. Click the Start button and open Settings.
  2. Go to Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  3. Select Manage known networks.
  4. Choose the BSU Wi-Fi network.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Turn Use random hardware addresses Off.

After disabling MAC randomization, disconnect from the BSU Wi-Fi network and reconnect to ensure the change takes effect. If you continue to experience connectivity issues, contact the ResNet Help Desk for assistance.
