Overview
Blackboard has updated the Ultra Gradebook interface to streamline grading workflows and modernize navigation.
Important: Your existing grades, grade calculations, schemas, submission histories, and overall course settings remain unchanged. Only the visual layout and certain step-by-step workflows have updated.
Key Interface Changes
1. New Navigation Controls
The top tabs have been replaced with dedicated icon controls at the top left of the Gradebook view:
-
Grid View (Grid Icon): Enter, view, and manage grades in a full spreadsheet-style layout.

-
List View (List Icon): Organize assessments by item, view student submission statuses, and check grading progress.

-
Filter Options: Easily narrow down displayed students, groups, or specific items.

2. New Grade Details Panel
Clicking into a grade cell while in Grid View now opens a single, unified panel on the right side of your screen. This panel brings together:
-
Grade inputs and override options
-
Student accommodations and exceptions
-
Quick actions and submission details
Streamlined Grading Workflows
-
Batch Column Entry: Click the Pencil icon in any column header to enter or edit grades for an entire column at once.

-
Rapid Grade Entry: Press Enter after typing a grade to automatically move down to the next student.
-
Direct Grade Posting: Post all grades for an assignment directly from the column header dropdown menu when ready for release.
What Has Not Changed
-
Existing Grades & History: All previously entered grades and student submission histories are untouched.
-
Settings & Schemas: Your overall grade settings, gradebook schemas, and calculated columns function exactly as before.
-
List View Availability: You can still switch to the List View at any time.
