Wireless: Which Devices Should Connect to Which Wireless Network?

The purpose of this article is to explain the differences between the wireless networks on campus - specifically in the residence halls, which devices belong on them, and why connecting to the correct network is important to having the best experience.

Ensuring your device is connected to the correct network is essential for the best possible Wi-Fi experience on campus.

The table below outlines the available residence hall Wi-Fi networks, the devices for each, and connection instructions.

Network Devices How to Log-in For Best User Experience
BSU_Wireless

All computers: 
Desktops and Laptops  

Mobile Devices: 
Phones, Tablets, etc.

Select network:

  1. BSU_Wireless
  2. Enter BSU username and password
Most devices are connected here! 

This secure network is your primary network on campus and is configured with the most access.
BSU_Gadgets

Streaming Devices & Smart Devices: 
Smart TV’s, Firesticks, Roku’s, Apple TV’s Etc.
 

Select Network:
  1.  BSU_Gadgets
  2.  Password: resnet7999

BSU_Gadgets is for connecting streaming devices, and smart devices, to campus Wi-Fi.

BSU_GameConsoles

Gaming consoles:

PlayStations, Xboxes, Nintendo Switch, Handheld Games, etc. 

FYI: 

  • The BSU_GameConsoles 
    network is only available in the residence halls.
  • Streaming devices DO NOT belong on this network.
Select Network:
  1.  BSU_GameConsoles

This network includes Open NAT by default.  

This network is locked down for video game services only.  

BSU_GUEST For campus visitors without BSU credentials

This network does not need a password.

Once connected, a user must accept the terms in a browser. 

BSU_Guest is for campus visitors to access basic internet.

This network disconnects after 18 hours; guests can reconnect by re-accepting the terms.

This network is capped at a speed of 10mbps.

EDUROAM
(Education Roaming)
This network provides full access to participating university members. Select Network:
  • Eduroam

Enter your University Credentials:
  •   Personal University Username
  •   Personal University Password 

This network allows participating university members to securely connect to our BSU Wi-Fi on-​campus using their home university credentials.

This network is also used if a BSU student visits a participating campus with your BSU credentials.
