Creating FREE Generative AI Accounts (ChatGPT and Claude)
This KB article explains how to sign-up for the FREE versions of ChatGPT and Claude, two generative AI frontier large language models. Note that BSU does not have an enterprise-level ChatGPT or Claude subscription like we do with Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. Enterprise-level accounts provide greater data protection and more features than free accounts.
If you plan to use your account for any BSU-related business, then use your BSU's Google Workspace credentials for use with ChatGPT or Claude (see below for instructions). Note that free plans have limitations such as reduced privacy protections, minimal data security measures, restricted daily message limits, and fewer available features.

Logging into ChatGPT (free version)

Go to https://chatgpt.com/

To create an account, select “Sign up” in the top right-hand corner.

Choose your preferred creation option for your account. We recommend using your BSU credentials to gain access to content generated by BSU's Center for AI. Instructions on creating an account using the BSU Google Workspace credentials are below.
- Click Continue with Google

Once you’ve entered the information to sign-up, you may be sent a verification code to verify your email address.

After you’ve entered the code, you’ll be able to log in and use ChatGPT.

Logging into Claude (free version)

Go to Claude.ai

You’ll be brought to this screen where you can choose to sign in using a Google account or another email:

Enter your email. If this is your first time using Claude, a verification code will be sent to your email. You will need to enter the code into the box before you’ll be able to use Claude.
