Overview
Bridgewater State University Information Technology (IT) provides loaner laptops to support academic and professional needs across campus.
Laptops with power supply, if needed, are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be used in accordance with the eligibility and loan guidelines outlined below.
All users must comply with the BSU Responsible Use Policy.
Eligibility
Students
Students may borrow a loaner laptop, with power supply if needed, if they meet the following requirements:
- Must be a currently registered student.
- Must present a BSU Connect Card at the time of checkout.
- Borrowers are responsible for the laptop and all accessories during the loan period and may be liable for loss or damage.
Faculty & Staff
- Available to full-time faculty and staff for short-term use only (for example, temporary device issues or travel).
- Must comply with the BSU Responsible Use Policy.
Loan Periods
Students
Standard The standard loan period is up to two weeks.
Extensions
- Extensions require approval from IT Support Staff
- Reminder notifications will be sent before the return date
- To request an extension, visit the IT Endpoint Services Desk
Failure to return a laptop with power supply by the due date may result in a hold being placed on the student account.
Semester-Long Loans
Students may qualify for semester-long laptop loans.
- All laptops with power supply must be returned at the end of each semester for auditing and security updates.
- If a laptop is needed for the next semester, a new loan agreement must be completed and a new device issued at the start of the term.
Faculty & Staff
Faculty and staff are eligible for short-term loans only. Loan duration will be determined at the time the device is issued.
Laptop Loaner Agreement
All borrowers must electronically sign a Laptop Loaner Agreement when the device and power supply, if needed, are issued.

- Return requirements
Return Policy & Replacement Fees
Students
- Laptops with power supply must be returned by the due date or at the end of the semester, depending on the loan type.
- Late or unreturned laptops with power supply will result in a registration hold on the student account.
- Continued non-return will result in referral to the Finance Department for collection of a $400 laptop replacement fee.
Faculty & Staff
- Devices must be returned by the agreed-upon return date.
- Failure to return a device may result in administrative escalation to the department head or Human Resources.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I keep my laptop for another semester?
Laptops with power supply must be returned at the end of each semester for auditing and security updates. If you still need a device, you may sign out a new loaner and complete a new agreement at the start of the next term.
What if my loaner stops working?
Bring the device to the Ritesh Chandra IT Service Center in Maxwell Library. If necessary, a replacement laptop may be issued.
What if my laptop is damaged?
Report the damage immediately to the IT Service Center. IT staff will assess the device and determine any repair or replacement costs.
What if I lose my laptop or accessories?
Lost laptops incur a $400 replacement fee. Lost power supplies or other accessories may incur additional charges.
What happens if I return my laptop late?
A registration hold may be placed on your account until the laptop with power supply is returned. Devices that are not returned may be referred to the Finance Department for collection.
