Ethernet ports are available in residence hall rooms and can be identified by their blue ports. Ethernet ports are inactive by default and must be activated before they can be used.
To activate an Ethernet port, submit the Wired Internet Request Form below. Requests are typically completed within 3 -7 business days.
Once activated, your wired connection will remain active through the end of the Spring semester.

BEFORE submitting a request please consider:
- Reviewing the Wireless Internet page to make sure your device is connected to the correct wireless network. Connecting to the wrong network may result in a poor experience.
- If you are connecting a gaming console, try BSU_GameConsoles first. This network is specifically designed for gaming consoles and provides an Open NAT type by default.
- Personal routers are not allowed in the residence halls. Personal routers can interfere with the University's network and affect other residents' ability to connect.
- Wired connection requests are typically completed within 3 business days, though requests submitted at the start of a semester may take up to 7 business days.
If you plan to use your wired connection for gaming, please note:
- Wired connections use a Strict NAT type by default.
- An Open NAT type can provide a better experience for multiplayer gaming, party play, and game hosting.
- You must already have an active wired Internet connection before requesting an Open NAT type.
- To obtain an Open NAT type for your wired connection, submit the Open NAT Type Request Form below.
