How to Find the MAC Address on Common Devices

A MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a unique identifier associated with a device's network interface. You may need the MAC address when connecting certain devices to the BSU network.

Smart Speakers & Assistants

Amazon Echo / Alexa

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app and sign in.
  2. Begin setting up your Echo device.
  3. Connect to the wireless network broadcast by the Echo when prompted.
  4. The wireless MAC address appears near the bottom of the Echo setup screen.

Streaming Devices

Amazon Fire TV / Fire Stick

  • During initial setup, look for the MAC address while selecting a Wi-Fi network.
  • On a configured device, go to Settings > System > About > Network.

Apple TV

  1. Plug in and begin setting up the Apple TV.
  2. Attempt to connect to BSU_Gadgets.
  3. The wireless MAC address should appear on screen.

Roku

  1. Go to Settings > Network > About.
  2. Look for Ethernet MAC Address or Wireless MAC Address, depending on the connection you plan to use.

Mobile Devices

Android

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to About Phone/Tablet > Status.
  3. Locate Wi-Fi MAC address.

Android menus can vary by device manufacturer and software version.

iPhone / iPad

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General > About.
  3. Locate Wi-Fi Address.

Computers & Laptops

Windows 10/11

  1. Open Command Prompt.
  2. Enter ipconfig /all and press Enter.
  3. Look for Physical Address under the appropriate adapter:
    • Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi — wireless MAC address
    • Ethernet adapter Ethernet — wired MAC address

macOS

  1. Open the Apple menu  > System Settings.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
  4. View the connection details to locate the MAC address.

The exact menu names may differ depending on your version of macOS.

Game Consoles

Xbox 360: Go to My Xbox > System Settings > Network Settings > Configure Network > Additional Settings > Alternate MAC Address.

Xbox One / Series X|S: Go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings to view the wired and wireless MAC addresses.

PlayStation 3: Go to Settings > System Settings > System Information.

PlayStation 4 / PS5: Go to Settings > System > System Information and look for MAC Address (LAN Cable) or MAC Address (Wi-Fi).

Nintendo Wii: Go to Wii Options > Wii Settings > Internet > Console Information.

Nintendo Wii U: Go to System Settings > Internet > View MAC Address.

Nintendo 3DS: Go to System Settings > Internet Settings > Other Information > Confirm MAC Address.

Nintendo Switch: Go to System Settings > Internet and locate System MAC Address.

Smart TVs

Menu locations vary by model and software version, but common locations include:

  • Samsung: Settings > Support > About This TV
  • LG: Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Connection > Advanced Settings
  • Vizio: Menu > Network > Manual Setup
  • Sony/Google TV: Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > Status

Tip: If your device displays multiple MAC addresses, make sure you use the address for the connection type you're setting up—Wi-Fi/wireless or Ethernet/wired.
