Getting Started - Windows Virtual Desktop

Tags WVD

Windows Virtual Desktop provides a method for students, faculty, and staff to access on-campus resources, including applications and mapped network drives for faculty/staff from any device.

There are two basic methods for connecting to the service.  Via a dedicated app designed for the device's platform (iOS, Windows, MacOS, android), or a browser based portal.  The dedicated app is the preferred access method.  The dedicated app will allow academic applications to run as if they are running on the host device, while the browser based portal provides less functionality.

Windows 10/11 download:

Microsoft Remote Desktop for Windows

MacOS download:

Microsoft Remote Desktop on the App Store (apple.com)

iOS download:

Remote Desktop Mobile on the App Store (apple.com)

Android:

Remote Desktop - Apps on Google Play

Once download, tap the + or click on Add Workspace and click or tap Subscribe.  Type in your email address and click or tap Next.

If for any reason your email address does not work, copy and paste this address:

You should now see the resources you have access to. Click or tap on an application and it will load on your device.  Once it loads, please save all work to OneDrive so that it's available to you after your session ends.

To access via the web portal, please use this link:

Please note that if accessing from a web browser, you will not be able to copy/paste from your computer's operating system to your application or remote desktop.  IT recommends the app for full functionality.
