How to Access BSU Emails with Legacy Authentication Disabled

Legacy authentication is the old way of connecting to BSU Email, which Microsoft is disabling starting 10/1/2022.  Legacy authentication does not support multi-factor authentication (MFA), and it is the primary way cybercriminals use to gain access to your mailbox.  Some of us had used POP3 or IMAP4 protocol to connect to BSU emails years ago and may have carried these settings to newer devices today.  POP3 and IMAP4 are examples of legacy authentication, which only support single-factor authentication with just username and password.  Click here to see a full list of legacy authentication applications and protocols for Exchange Online.  Although the IT Security Office strongly recommends using the Outlook app on your mobile device or laptop, you may continue to use any application for email providing it supports modern authentication. However, it is important to note that you will always be able to access your email by going to https://email.bridgew.edu in your web browser.

Most individuals are either using an Android or iOS (iPhone/iPad) with legacy authentication. Below you will find instructions for (1) installing Outlook on Android, (2) installing Outlook on iOS, and (3) using the built-in Mail app in iOS. If you are using a third type of device to access BSU Email please contact security@bridgew.edu for additional information.
