MFA: How to Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) App Password

Most applications support modern authentication (browser based applications) and are compatible with multi-factor authentication (MFA). However, legacy (older) applications cannot handle MFA and require an application-specific (app) password in order to sign in to your account. The following steps will guide you through how to create an app password. Best practice strongly recommends generating an app password for each device rather than reusing an existing app password.

  1. Sign in to the Office 365 Security Info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

 

  1. On the Security info page, click Add method, then choose App password in the drop-down menu, and click Add

 

  1. Give your app password a name (“Galaxy S10” in this case), click Next

 

  1. Use the app password for the specific case, click Done to complete
