How to Connect a MacBook to a Projector or Second Display

  1. Turn ON the MAC.

  2. Connect the cable from the control panel in the classroom to the Mac. Cables are located on top of the teaching station. Computer and audio cables are available. You may need to provide a Mac adapter.
  3. Press the laptop or HDMI button on the control panel, depending on the cable used. If the classroom uses a digital control panel, press Guest Laptop icon on the control panel.
  4. Once the Mac and projector are connected, they can press Command ( ⌘) + F1 or do the following:
    1. Click on the Apple Menu in the top left corner of thescreen.
    2. Select System Preferences from the drop-down menu.
    3. Select the Displays icon.
    4. When the Displays window appears, select the Detect Displays button.
  5. At this point the Mac and projector should be synchronized. If not, try following these steps:
    1. Click on the Apple Menu in the top left corner of your screen 
    2. Select System Preferences from the drop-down menu 
    3. Select the Displays icon
    4. When the Displays window appears, select the Arrangement tab within the menu bar
    5. Check the Mirror Displays box in the lower left-hand corner of the window
      (Note: After checking this box, wait several seconds. Once the displays are mirrored, the same image on both the projector and computer.)

If using presenter view in PowerPoint, do not check the Mirror Displays box. This will leave the setup in Extend Mode, allowing for the laptop screen to display the presenter notes.

Note:  Command ( ⌘) + F1 is the MAC keyboard command equivalent of WIN+P.
