MFA: Chromebook Authentication

This article explains the integration of Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Chromebook users at the university. This process enhances security for both employees and students.

Authentication Process:

  1. Sign-In Requirements:

    • Mandatory MFA: Every time you sign in to your Chromebook after a restart or shutdown, you must complete MFA. The option “Don’t ask again for 90 days” does not apply in these cases.
  2. Browser Session Management:

    • Credential Storage: Once you are signed in, the Chrome browser will remember your credentials and MFA token.
    • 90-Day Period: You will not be prompted for MFA again for 90 days when accessing BSU emails, Blackboard, and other services through the browser.
  3. Lid Closure:

    • No MFA Prompt: If you close the Chromebook lid without restarting or shutting down, you will not be prompted for MFA when you reopen it.
