FACULTY: Generating Captions for OneDrive (Stream) Hosted Video Files

Tags captioning

One of the features of hosting video content on OneDrive is the ability to make the content accessible through auto-generated captions.

If you are the owner of the video, click the file to open it in the Stream player. On the right side of the video window are various options for customizing the playback settings. Click on the "Video settings" tab to open the main control panel.

Under the "Transcript and captions" drop down you will find a selection to "generate" an AI caption/transcript of the video or to upload a premade caption file.

Click the "Generate" option to have Microsoft AI begin to create a new transcription. A pop-up will allow you to confirm the video's native language (this will also be the language for the transcript/captioning). Click the generate button on the pop-up to begin the process. Depending on the video, this process may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. The transcript/caption will be automatically applied without further intervention on your part.

To verify that the transcript/caption is completed, you can come back to the video settings panel at a later time and there will be a confirmation under transcript and captions.

If you would like to edit the transcript/captions manually, click the "Transcript" tab on the main video panel.
