Tech Help: Error message "Collate Fail: Too Many Pages Error"

Environment

This error typically occurs when printing a very large document (generally a print job larger than 2 GB) on a WEPA printer.

Cause

When collation is enabled, the printer stores the entire print job in memory so it can print multiple copies while keeping the pages in the correct order.

Large documents—especially those with many pages, images, or graphics—can exceed the printer's 2 GB memory limit. When this happens, the printer cannot process the job and displays the "Collate Fail: Too Many Pages" error.

Resolution

  1. Press Cancel on the printer to clear the error.
  2. Advise the student to:
    • Split the document into smaller print jobs and print each section separately.
    • If multiple copies are needed, print the smaller sections individually and combine them afterward.

This resolves the issue by reducing the amount of memory required for each print job.
