FACULTY: How do I provide an exemption to a student for a Respondus Lockdown Browser exam?

To create an exemption for a student from having to use the Respondus Lockdown Browser to take your Blackboard Learn exam, do the following:

  1. Proceed to the location in your Blackboard Learn course where your test is deployed, click the drop-down arrow next to the exam, and select Edit Test Options
  2. Scroll down to the password section and copy the random password generated by LockDown Browser
  3. Provide the password to the student, proctor, or testing center.  Only provide a password to a student if no other option exists; the student could potentially share the password with other students
  4. When the student begins the exam, they will be prompted for the password.

BLACKBOARD ULTRA NOTE: there is currently no way to set an exception for specific student(s) when requiring Respondus lockdown browser in Blackboard Ultra.  The recommended workaround is to make a copy of the test without the Respondus requirements and set up release conditions just for those student(s). There is a recommendation in the Antholoy Idea Exchange for this change located at https://anthology-teachingandlearning.ideas.aha.io/ideas/LEARNU-I-2289 if you'd like to create an account and add your vote and feedback as well.
