FACULTY: ULTRA: How do I convert my blank "Learn Original" course shell to Ultra format?

Are you ready to jump into Blackboard Ultra? Here’s what you need to know about converting your Blackboard Learn Original course shells to Blackboard Ultra format.

  1. When you open up your Blackboard Learn Original course, you’ll see a message inviting you to “Try the Ultra Course View!” Click on that button.
    • If you accidentally click “I’ll keep the Original Course View for now” or simply want to try it another time, you can click the pencil-icon (shown below) found in the upper-right hand corner at any time.
    • If this still is not showing, make sure that the course is locked (unavailable to students). Close and reopen your course.
  2. After agreeing to try the Ultra Course view, Blackboard will convert your course and will email you when it’s ready. It will show as, “Converting…” on your course page, as shown below.
  3. When it is done converting, you can see how your course looks and feels in Ultra format.
    • You can edit course items in this preview and play around with everything Ultra has to offer.
    • Click Use the Ultra Course at the bottom of the screen to permanently convert this blank course shell to Ultra format OR
    • Click Back to Original Course to revert your course back to the "Learn Original format" before you attempted the conversion.

NOTES:

  • Select “view details” on the black banner at the top of the page to see which parts of your course did not convert correctly and why.
    • These will be categorized as: Low, Medium, and High priority.
    • Some of the items that will not convert at the time of this writing include: Surveys, Self and Peer Assessments, Wikis, and Blogs.
    • To see all aspects of Blackboard Learn Original that will and will not convert to Ultra format, see Blackboard’s Ultra Course Preview help page.
