FACULTY: ULTRA: How do I add exceptions or additional attempts to exams for individual students?

Some students may require an exception or additional attempt for a specific test or assignment for a variety of reasons. You can also give an individual students extended access to a specific assessment even after the assessment is hidden from other students. Exceptions override the settings that have been applied for everyone else on an assessment and can’t be seen by other students.

You can add an exception from the assessment’s submission page, from an individual or group’s submission page, or after a grade has been posted.

From the assessment submission page:

  1. Find the student's name
  2. Open the menu by clicking on the ellipsis next to the student's name.
  3. Select Add or edit exceptions.
  4. Change the Show on or Hide after dates and times and allow additional attempts.

From an individual submission

  1. Open the menu next to the grade pill.
  2. Select Exceptions.
  3. Set the settings for the individual student.

After a grade is posted:

  1. Open the menu by clicking the ellipsis next to the student’s submission.
  2. Select Edit Settings.
  3. Set an exception for the individual.

For more details and instructions about the exceptions you can set for assessments, view the Blackboard Ultra guidance here.
