STUDENT: How can I get started with Respondus Lockdown Browser or Respondus Monitor?

If a professor is using Respondus Lockdown Browser or Respondus Monitor for Blackboard testing, review the guidance below for getting started.

Follow these instructions on how to use Respondus Lockdown Browser or Monitor.

In Blackboard Learn:
Here is a brief excerpt of the instructions for using Lockdown Browser:

1. To start LockDown Browser, locate the “LockDown Browser” icon on the desktop and double-click it. Alternatively, Windows users can go to “Start", locate "All Programs,” select “Respondus,” and click “Respondus LockDown Browser.”
2. At start-up, Lockdown Browser will automatically go to the login page for Blackboard. You can simply log in and navigate to the exam, just as you would in a regular browser.

An error message will appear if you try to take the exam in a regular browser.

3. Once the exam has started, you are locked into the exam. You may not print, copy, go to other web addresses, or access other applications on the computer. Web searches, instant messaging, minimizing the browser, and hundreds of other functions are also prevented. Once the exam is completed, you are permitted to exit the browser and your computer will return to its normal state. If you need to exit the exam before submitting it, for example in case of an emergency or Internet failure, you'll be required to enter a reason for exiting the exam early.

In Blackboard Ultra:

Once you have downloaded Respondus LockDown Browser and are ready to take the test, follow the step-by-step directions below. Please note, if you try to open Respondus Lockdown Browser first and then login to your BSU account to take the test, it will say "Unable to Open Exam" and ask that you first go through a standard browser to navigate to the test.

1. Go to the test you need to take within your Blackboard course and click on it
2. Click View Assessment, and it will direct you to cancel or open Lockdown Browser
3. Click Open Lockdown Browser, which will bring you to your test
4. Complete your test and click Submit
5. After you have submitted your test, you should receive a message saying your submission was successful. You should also receive an email with this information. 
6. You may close the test and Lockdown Browser.
